Primary School PE and Sport Conference - Concession Fee (Student)

Description

‘Building the Legacy; Health, Exercise, Physical Activity and Physical Education’

The 2012 Olympics and the Government’s recent announcement of further investment in Primary School PE and School Sport means it is a very exciting time to be involved in Primary School Physical Education and Sport. This inaugural conference at the University of Gloucestershire offers primary school teachers and trainee teacher’s ideas on how to positively engage primary pupils in exercise, physical activity, physical education and school sport.

You can view the conference programme here.

Keynote Speaker – Dr Orla Flannery

Dr Orla Flannery is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Her PhD study was in childhood obesity and she is a member of the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence in Childhood Obesity. Her work has focused on developing, implementing and evaluating a variety of interventions to get young children more active. Her keynote presentation will explore the importance of establishing lifelong physical activity behaviour in children, the current childhood obesity ‘epidemic’, the benefits of health and well-being in children and how high quality Physical Education can help develop lifelong physical activity behaviours.

Seminars/Workshops/Networking

Practical workshops and classroom seminars provide opportunities for delegates to develop their subject knowledge discuss their individual needs and identify solutions to their professional development needs.

At the end of the conference Headteachers, School Sports Organisers and University staff will disseminate contents of the Westminster Briefing on School Sport Funding and PE curriculum that was attended by this group on 8th May in Manchester. It is hoped that this will provide greater clarity for schools in terms of understanding the changes and explaining how the reform may be implemented. All delegates are welcome to attend this session.
