The New Futures for Satoyama conference provides a unique opportunity to bring together UK policy makers and practitioners with a group of experienced researchers from across Europe and Asia, to examine the significance of longstanding cultural landscapes and the concept of Satoyama – people living in close harmony with nature, in ‘Social-Ecological Production Landscapes’ – to help address our current and future land use and management challenges.
The invitation-only event will be a lively and informal mix of presentation, discussion, debate and field visits designed to explore issues, identify and refine recommendations for enhanced policy, research and practice in the UK and internationally. It has been kindly sponsored by the OECD’s Co-operative Research Programme, with support also from the University of Gloucestershire and the Royal Agricultural University.
